Higher Education

Ph.D.

TU-Darmstadt, Institute of Concrete Structures

September 28, 2006 - magna cum laude

Dissertation: Adaptive Concrete Structures with Fuzzy-Logic Controlled External Prestressing

Supervisor: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martina Schnellenbach-Held

University of Duisburg-Essen, Institute of Concrete Structures, since April 2004

The objective of this thesis is to increase the lifespan of prestressed concrete structures, particularly bridges, by adapting the structure to various loading conditions. For this purpose, a system of sensors and actuators, a database of mathematical models as well as a control scheme that is based on fuzzy logic and supported by case-based reasoning has been implemented.
